Companies

Emerging from the Georg Roth branch in Fürth founded in 1921, the first Norma branch was opened in Nuremberg in 1964 . Since the late 1980s, Norma has developed from a regional discounter into an internationally operating company. The grocery store is based in Nuremberg. On April 5, 2010 the company owner Manfred Georg Roth died. The company is managed by a dual leadership consisting of Gerd Köber and Robert Tjón. In December 2011, the legal form changing the general partner of a limited liability company into a foundation converted based in Fürth. The limited partnership was then renamed Norma Lebensmittelfilialbetrieb Stiftung & Co. KG . Another foundation was set up to manage the property.

The company has branches in most of Germany. Only in Hamburg , Bremen and large parts of Lower Saxony and Westphalia there are no branches.

Austria

The Austrian subsidiary operates under the name Norma GmbH & Co. KG , the company headquarters is in Mattighofen (Upper Austria). The (estimated) annual turnover in 2010 was 3.8 million euros. As of April 2017, there were 20 Norma branches in Austria , with a focus on 12 locations in Upper Austria . According to its own information, Norma sources around 25% of its range from regional, Austrian suppliers, especially in the areas of fruit, vegetables and dairy products. There is currently no central warehouse of its own, the logistics are handled by a German location and a few direct suppliers.

According to media reports, Norma Austria achieved sales of EUR 46.4 million with 21 branches in 2018. The total sales area was around 15,000 m² or 714 m² for the average store. Norma's market share in Austrian food retail in 2018 was 0.1%.

concept

The sales concept is based on the basic idea of the discount principle: Concentration on everyday products. In addition to the small number of items on offer (compared to traditional supermarkets), there are weekly changing items from the food and non-food sectors for sale. Regional brands and products are also included in the range of products and services . As with many grocery retailers, Norma has expanded its offering in the past to include services such as cell phone tariffs, travel and a photo service. For several years now, Norma24 has also been available as its own online shop .
