Double top
With dual leadership refers to the cases of a formal peer occupying the highest decision-making powers in political parties, companies, associations and committees. An example from antiquity are the two consuls in the Roman Empire . In the last few years, double heads have become established in political parties in the Federal Republic of Germany, whereas they have not been common in Austria and Switzerland.
Double peaks have advantages and disadvantages. Establishing an exact division of tasks in advance is considered beneficial; Frictional losses and fights for direction are possible. If, for example, there is an imbalance similar to a relationship between “junior” and “senior partner”, the younger one may feel compelled to leave in order to get an adequate course at all. In other cases, one of the two may seek to force the other out of office in order to have sole control.
To resolve conflicts within a dual leadership team, coaching is sometimes used, whereby approaches from the field of mediation also come into play when the conflict has already escalated .
