Katsushika ( Japanese 葛 飾 区 , - ku , the official spelling uses the Kyūjitai form of , the lower component of which corresponds to that of ) is one of the 23 districts of Tokyo Prefecture . It is located in northeast Tokyo , the capital of Japan .

history

The district of Katsushika of the city ​​of Tokyo was created on October 1, 1932 from the merger of 7 small towns ( Machi ) and villages ( Mura ) in the district of South Katsushika ( Minamikatsushika-gun ) of the prefecture (then fu ) Tokyo . In 1943, when the city ​​of Tokyo was dissolved, it became a prefecture-level administrative district of Tokyo. On March 15, 1947, Katsushika became a "special" district ( tokubetsu-ku ) with local self-government at the city level.

The 40-member local parliament and mayor of Katsushika were both last elected in November 2017. Katsunori Aoki, who has been in office since 2009, was re-elected as mayor with LDP - DFP - Kōmeitō -support against a CPJ -supported challenger. Katsushika is a four- seat constituency for the Tokyo Prefectural Parliament ; in the June 2017 election , one seat each went to Tomin First no Kai , LDP, Kōmeitō and KPJ.

For the lower house of the National Assembly, the district together with a small part of Edogawa forms the 17th constituency of Tokyo , which has been represented by the Liberal Democrat Katsuei Hirasawa since the first election after the introduction of the single-mandate constituencies in 1996 .
