Yodobashi-ku (Tokyo)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yodobashi ( Japanese 淀 橋 区 , -ku ) was a district of the city of Tokyo ( Tōkyō-shi ) in the old Tokyo Prefecture ( Tōkyō-fu ).

It was created in 1932 when the Tokyo metropolitan area was enlarged and united the previous communities of Yodobashi , Ōkubo , Totsuka and Ochiai . After the dissolution of the city of Tokyo in 1943, Yodobashi was a prefecture-direct district of the new Tokyo prefecture ( Tōkyō-to ) and was therefore subject to the prefecture administration appointed by the Ministry of the Interior . With the reorganization of the Tokyo administration after the end of the Pacific War, Yodobashi was united with Ushigome and Yotsuya to form Shinjuku in 1947 .
