Nakano is made up of the following 18 districts: Minamidai, Nakan, Ekoda, Yayoicho, Arai, Shirasai, Maruyama, Saginomoiya, Honcho, Chūō, Higashinakano, Numabukuro, Matsugaoka, Eharacho, Nogata, Yamatocho, Wakamiya and Kamisaginomiya.

history

In 1447 Ōta Dōkan defeated Toshima Yasutsune in a battle here . In 1606, the Naruki Kaidō highway , predecessor of today's Ōme Kaidō , a road to Ōme , was built. In 1695, a facility to house stray dogs was set up in conjunction with the Shōrui Awaremi no Rei issued by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi .

In the Meiji Restoration, the area was slammed after several restructuring of Shinagawa Prefecture , which took over the administration of parts of the former shogunate-loyal areas ( Bakuryo , Hatamoto country) in the southwest of Musashi Province. In 1871 the 12 villages that were in what is now Nakano became part of Tokyo Prefecture .

In 1889 the Kofu Railway opened. The predecessor of today's Chūō main line also had a train station in Nakano between the stations in Shinjuku and Hachiōji .

In 1878 Nakano became the seat of the county government of Higashi-Tama ("East Tama") when Tama County was finally divided . With the introduction of modern municipal codes 1889 Nakano- will mura increased by neighboring villages. After the merger of the districts of Higashi-Tama and Minami-Toshima ("South Toshima") in 1896, Nakano belonged to the district of Toyotama - the joint district administration was located in the city of Yodobashi . In 1897 Nakano also became a district town as Nakano- machi . The district was formed on October 1, 1932 by the incorporation of the cities of Nogata and Nakano into the city of Tokyo . In 1943, with the abolition of the city of Tokyo, Nakano became a prefecture. The current administrative structure as a quasi municipal "special district" dates from March 15, 1947, when the US occupiers carried out an administrative reform in Tokyo.

The Tokyo subway network is expanded to Nakano in 1961.
