Adachi ( Japanese 足 立 区 , - ku ) is one of the 23 districts in the east of the Japanese prefecture of Tokyo . It is located in the north of Tokyo , the capital of Japan .

geography

The municipality is located in the northern part of Tokyo and is divided into two areas: a narrow strip between the Arakawa and Sumidagawa rivers , and a larger area north of the Arakawa.

history

In the Ritsuryō system, Adachi was the southernmost gun in Musashi Province . In 826 the Nishiarai Daishi Temple was built. During the Muromachi and Sengoku periods , Adachi was under the control of the Chiba clan. The Great Senju Bridge ( Senju-Ōhashi ) was built in 1594. During the Edo period , Adachi was under the direct control of the Tokugawa shogunate and was administered by the Kan'ei-ji temple in Ueno . Senju was a post office of the Nikkō Kaidō . After the Meiji Restoration, Adachi County was divided into South Adachi ( Minami-Adachi ) in Tokyo Prefecture and North Adachi ( Kita-Adachi ) in Saitama Prefecture. In 1932, the entire Minami-Adachi District was incorporated into Tokyo City and became the Adachi-ku District as a whole . On March 15, 1947, Adachi became a special district ( tokubetsu-ku ).

As mayor, Yayoi Kondō was re-elected for a fourth term with LDP - Kōmeitō -support against only one opposing candidate, a communist former member of the prefectural parliament. The turnout fell to under 43%. Before her first election in 2007, Kondō was an LDP MP for Adachi in the prefectural parliament . The district sends six MPs there, in the 2017 election two seats each went to Tomin First no Kai and Kōmeitō, and LDP and KPJ won one each .

For the lower house of the national parliament, Adachi extends into the constituencies of Tokyo 12 and 13 . The 12th constituency, which includes Kita and the west of Adachi, is currently represented by the former Kōmeitō chairman Akihiro Ōta , the 13th constituency in the east of the liberal democrat Ichirō Kamoshita .
