The National Road 4 ( Japanese 国 道 4 号 , Kokudō 4-gō ) is the most important north-south road in Japan and crosses the Japanese main island of Honshū from Chūō in central Tokyo to Aomori . Its course essentially follows that of the old Ōshū-Kaidō from Nihonbashi to Shirakawa .
