Ōtawara ( Japanese 大田 原 市 , - shi ) is a city in Tochigi Prefecture in Japan .

Ōtawara is northeast of Utsunomiya .

history

Ōtawara was the seat of the royal family Ōtawara , who had built a castle there. On October 1, 1954 , the place was raised to a city.

The former castle grounds are now the Ryūjō Kōen ( 龍城 公園 ) park .
