Ichirō Kamoshita ( Japanese 鴨 下 一郎 , Kamoshita Ichirō ; born January 16, 1949 in Adachi , Tokyo ) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and former environment minister .

Kamoshita studied medicine at the Nihon Daigaku . In 1993 he was elected to Shūgiin as a candidate for the New Japan Party for the 10th constituency of Tokyo Prefecture (since 1996: 13th constituency ) . Under Prime Minister Tsutomu Hata , Kamoshita was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of the Environment for a month. After the fall of the anti-LDP coalition government, he joined the New Progress Party with the majority of the opposition forces , for which he was re-elected in 1996. Before this disbanded, Kamoshita left the party in July 1997 and joined the LDP in December of the same year.

After serving in various committees, Kamoshita has been involved in the committee for health, labor and social affairs since 2000; from 2002 to 2003 he was State Secretary in the responsible ministry . In 2003 he lost his constituency to the democratic challenger Masamitsu Jōjima , but was elected on the proportional representation list. In 2005 he regained his constituency. Within the LDP, Kamoshita belongs to the Tsushima faction .

Prime Minister Shinzō Abe appointed Kamoshita as Environment Minister during the cabinet reshuffle shortly before his resignation in 2007 . Shortly after taking office, Kamoshita faced allegations that he had made false reports on political issues. Abe had already lost several ministers on similar charges. Nevertheless, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda took Kamoshita into his cabinet in September 2007 . When the cabinet reshuffle in August 2008 he was replaced by Tetsuo Saitō ( Kōmeitō ).
