The entrepreneur, smile activist and running candidate Mac Akasaka , known for his colorful campaign stagings , here in the Tokyo gubernatorial election campaign in 2014 , became a member of parliament in the Minato district after numerous unsuccessful candidacies in national, prefectural and local elections in 2019

In his fifth term, the mayor of Minato is the former municipal official Masaaki Takei, who was last confirmed in office in June 2020 with the support of LDP , DVP , Kōmeitō and SDP and over 60% of the votes against four challengers. The 34-member district parliament was re-elected in the uniform regional elections in 2019 .

In the prefecture of Parliament Tokyo Minato is represented by two deputies; in the last election in 2017 , the Tomin-First candidate Nobuko Irie and LDP incumbent Kōichi Kanno shared the seats, with Irie (35,263 votes) receiving more than twice as many votes as Kanno (15,350). Another Tomin-backed candidate missed the second seat by almost 2,000 votes.

For the national House of Representatives, most of the district, along with Chiyoda and Shinjuku, make up the prestigious Tokyo 1 constituency , which Banri Kaieda ( KDP ) won in the 2017 election . A small part of Minato has belonged to constituency 2, which the LDP defended, since 2017.
