The Ōedo line ( Japanese. 大江 戸 線 , Ōedo-sen , dt. "Groß- Edo -Linie") is a line of the Tokyo subway , more precisely a line of the Toei subway , which is operated by the Tokyo Prefecture Transportation Office is operated.

From a technical point of view, the line has the special feature that the trains of the series 12-000 and 12-600 are driven by a linear motor. On the track side, a long stator is laid along the track axis for this purpose, while drive coils are provided on the underside of the bogies. In this way it was possible to dispense with classic traction motors, which accommodated the lower overall height of vehicles and tunnels and should help to save costs. Nonetheless, the Ōedo line turned out to be the most expensive of the Tokyo subway lines to date, as expenditure rose to around 1.4 trillion yen (around 11 billion euros) in the course of the construction project. One reason for this was the great depth required for the tunnels, which are up to 48 meters below the ground and cross under the Sumida River three times.

The line was previously known as Line 12 because it was fully operational on December 12, 2000 (i.e., the year 12 of the Heisei era of the Japanese epoch calendar). The official color of the line is purple BSicon lDST fuchsia.svg. Since the line runs completely underground, it is considered the second longest tunnel in Japan after the Seikan tunnel .
