Iida Momo ( Japanese い い だ も も , actually 飯 田 桃 ; * October 1, 1926 in what is now Minato , Tokyo , Tokyo Prefecture ; † March 31, 2011 ) was a Japanese writer who dealt critically with political issues in his books.

Life

After attending Tokyo First Middle School (today: Hibiya High School ) and First High School , Iida Momo began studying law at the University of Tokyo in 1944 , where she made friends with the writer Mishima Yukio . After completing his studies, he became an employee of the Bank of Japan in 1947 , but had to give up this activity because of tuberculosis and settled in Ibaraki Prefecture , where he began his literary work and became a member of the New Japan Literary Society . He belonged with Nakamura Minoru and Katō Shūichi to a new generation of writers after the Second World War

In 1961 he moved to Mito in Ibaraki Prefecture, where he met the philosopher Umemoto Katsumi and became a member of social movements. After his expulsion from the Communist Party of Japan in 1965, he became a critic of the parliamentary political left . Also in 1965 he was one of the co-founders of Beheiren , a group of activists who campaigned against the US- led Vietnam War , and in 1967 he joined the Communist Workers' Party of Japan, a party founded in 1966 by the Shin- Sayoku , the “new” radical left .

In his books, which were mostly set in the 20th century , he often dealt with political topics such as ecology , communism , Marxism and socialism , but also with people like Emperor Hirohito and his over 60-year reign ( Shōwa period ), the publisher Kuroiwa Ruikō and the writer Mishima Yukio .
