The Tamachi Station ( Jap. 田町駅 , Tamachi-eki ) is located in Minato in Tokyo , Japan .

history

The station was opened on December 16, 1909 by the Japanese State Railways as a passenger station. On June 21, 1968, the nearby Mita station of the Asakusa line and Mita line operated by the Toei subway was opened. After the privatization of the state railway, the station became the property of JR Higashi-Nihon on April 1, 1987 .

Type of construction and tracks

The most common design of the station is a through station. It has a total of four platform tracks, which approach two central platforms and are served by the Keihin-Tōhoku line and Yamanote line . The platforms are not approached according to the line they belong to, but according to the direction of travel. The Shinkansen lines run south and east directly to the south of the platform tracks .

Surroundings

Near the station is Mita Station on the Asakusa and Mita subway lines, among others. There are also various diplomatic representations near the train station, including the embassies of Botswana , Italy , Kuwait , Mozambique , Papua New Guinea and Hungary . The Mita campus of Keiō University and the headquarters of various companies including Mitsubishi Motors and NEC are also located in the vicinity.

In 2014, the station was used by an average of 143,526 passengers per day, making it 18th out of over 900 on the list of the most frequently used stations of the JR East in 2014.
