Takahashi Korekiyo

The Takahashi Korekiyo Memorial Park ( Japanese 高橋 是 清 翁 記念 公園 , Takahashi Korekiyo ō kinen kōen ) - a small convertible garden - was originally the garden in front of the residence of the statesman Takahashi Korekiyo who was killed in the attempted coup on February 26, 1936 in the city of Tokyo , Japan.

The park

The property with Takahashi's garden was donated to the city of Tokyo in October 1938, which converted it into a park, which was opened to the public in June 1941. When air attacks during the Pacific War, most of the buildings of the residence were lost, and the bronze statue Takahashi was melted. The remaining building of the residence was transferred to "Edo-Tokyo-Park" in Koganei after the war and can be seen there. In 1955 the bronze statue was restored and in 1975 the park came under the administration of the Minato district .

The park is bordered on two sides by Aoyama-dōri (National Road 246) and a side road. On the other two sides, today it comes to the grounds of the Canadian Embassy. The statue of Takahashi is slightly raised at the rear end of the complex, the middle is occupied by a small body of water. Under the trees are old statues and stone lanterns.

The garden is largely in its original layout, due to the widening of the streets of the Aoyama-dōri, it has become a little smaller at 5,320 m².
