Chōshi ( Japanese 銚 子 市 , - shi ) is a city in Chiba Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan .
geography
The city is located east of Tokyo on the Bōsō Peninsula on the Pacific Ocean .
The River Tone flows through the city from northwest to northeast.
history
The city of Chōshi was created on February 11, 1933 from the merger of the communities Chōshi ( 銚 子 町 , -machi ), Motochōshi ( 本 銚 子 町 , -machi ) and Nishichōshi ( 西 銚 子 町 , -machi ), as well as the village of Toyoura ( 豊 浦村 , -mura ) in Kaijō County .
The natural disaster of the Tōhoku earthquake on March 11, 2011 with the subsequent tsunami did not claim any deaths in Chōshi, but 25 residential buildings were completely destroyed and 137 others were partially destroyed.
