Minamibōsō ( Japanese 南 房 総 市 , - shi , literally: "South Bōsō ") is a city in Chiba Prefecture in the east of Honshū , the main island of Japan .

geography

The city is located east of Tokyo on the Bōsō Peninsula on the Pacific Ocean and Tokyo Bay .

history

Today's city of Minamibōsō was formed on March 20, 2006, from the communities of Chikura, Maruyama, Shirahama, Tomiura, Tomiyama and Wada and from the village of Miyoshi. They all belonged to the former province of Awa .
