Ōami-Shirasato ( Japanese 大 網 白 里 市 , - shi ) is a city in Chiba Prefecture in Japan . The city borders the Pacific Ocean .
Historical
Ortami Town and Shirasato Village were created on April 1, 1889 during the organization of Sambu County within Chiba Prefecture. In 1935 Shirasato was also elevated to the status of a place. Ōami expanded in 1951 by incorporating the neighboring villages of Yamane and Mizuho. Ōami and Shirasato were merged into one city ( shi ) in 1954 . In 1957 the place Honnō was added as part of a border adjustment.

The city lies on the south-eastern edge of the Bōsō hill country . Her foreland extends (undeveloped) to the Pacific, where she reaches the "99-mile beach" ( 九 十九 里 浜 , Kujūkuri-hama ).
