Kashiwa ( Japanese 柏 市 , -shi ) is a city in Chiba Prefecture on Honshū , the main island of Japan . Kashiwa is located about 30 kilometers north of Tokyo .
history
Today's district-free city ( shi ) Kashiwa was established in 1954 after the former district city ( machi ) Kashiwa was merged with other communities in Higashikatsushika County . On March 28, 2005, Shōnan ( 沼 南 町 , -machi ) was the last municipality to be incorporated into the district, which was then dissolved.

Kashiwa is particularly famous for its soccer team , the Kashiwa Reysol , which is represented in the J-League and sponsored by the Hitachi company.
