The upholstery phlox ( Phlox subulata ), also known as carpet phlox , belongs to the family of pennies (Polemoniaceae).

description

The cushion phlox is an herbaceous plant and forms dense cushions from standing individual shoots. The stature heights can reach 10 to 15 centimeters. It has slender leaves. There are now many cultivated forms, so that the flower color ranges from white, to pink, to red or blue.

It blooms from April to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.

Occurrence

The cushion phlox is native to the northeastern states of the USA . In Central Europe it is cultivated as a frost-hardy perennial in gardens and parks. The upholstery phlox is undemanding and grows on sandy soils. He prefers sunny places.
