Naruyoshi Kikuchi

Naruyoshi Kikuchi ( Japanese 菊 地 成 孔 , Kikuchi Naruyoshi ; born June 14, 1963 in Chōshi ) is a Japanese musician ( saxophone , singing, composition) in the field of jazz and film music as well as an author .

biography

Naruyoshi Kikuchi began his musical career in 1985 and worked with Yōsuke Yamashita and in Tsuneo Imahori's band Tipographica . In 1992 he founded the J-pop band Spank Happy . In 1999 he co-founded the Date Course Pentagon Royal Garden (DCPRG) group, which played jazz with strong influences from techno and house . In 2004 his solo album Dégustation à jazz was released .

In addition, he worked with a large number of mostly Japanese bands and musicians, such as the bands Ruins and Ground Zero , the singer UA , the Art Bears Revisited project and with the jazz musicians Hiroshi Minami, Otomo Yoshihide and his New Jazz Quintet and Tōkyō Zawinul Bach ( 東京ザ ヴ ィ ヌ ル バ ッ ハ , Tōkyō Zavinuru Bahha ).

In addition to his musical activities, he regularly publishes books and essays. He also teaches at various Japanese universities, e. B. from 2004 to 2005 at the University of Tokyo and 2008 at the Keiō University .

He plays avant-garde, post-modern jazz z. Sometimes with electronic effects. In addition to playing the saxophone, he also sings on some of his pieces himself.

His older brother is the novelist Hideyuki Kikuchi .
