Ground Zero is a band founded in 1990 by Yoshihide Otomo with changing members.
history
Originally the band was initiated by John Zorn to perform the free improvisation piece called Game Piece Cobra , but quickly developed into Otomo's main project, which contributed to its increasing popularity in the following years. The group, often consisting of nine people, consisted essentially of Yoshihide Otomo, Hideki Kato and Masahiro Uemura, and later Mitsuru Nasuno , Sachiko M and Kazuhisa Uchihashi . The band's name changed from Ground-0 to Ground Zero in the first few years ; the project was also mentioned as the Ground Zero Orchestra and Ground Zero Ensemble . The group was active from 1990 to 1998. The band released their last appearance the following year under the title Last Concert.
style
The style of the group is known as New Improvisation Music or Noise as well as Jazzcore . On their self-titled debut album in 1992 , Ground Zero was the first band to use turntables for free improvisation. A fact that represented a recognizable further development of previous listening habits for those interested in jazz as well as for fans of electronic music. The band also mixed traditional Asian instruments with instruments from general rock and pop music.
