Kazuhisa Uchihashi ( Japanese 内 橋 和 久 , Uchihashi Kazuhisa ; born November 14, 1959 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a Japanese improvisation musician , composer who plays the electric guitar , but also daxophone .

Uchihashi began twelve years ago, to play guitar and was initially in various folk and rock bands to be heard before while studying at the Osaka University of Foreign Languages for jazz interested. Since 1983 he experimented with the creation of sounds on the electric guitar and began to occupy himself with free improvisation.

In 1988 he became a member of the improvisation ensemble The First Edition , founded by drummer Yasuhiro Yoshigaki. With Yoshigaki and the bassist Mitsuru Nasuno he founded the trio Altered States in 1990 , which also performed in 2012, released various albums and performed internationally. In 1993 he went on tour with Hans Reichel for the first time . Between 1994 and 1997 he was also a member of Yoshihide Otomos Ground Zero , with whom he played several times in Europe. In 1996 he also appeared with singer Haco, Samm Bennett and Zeena Parkins . He also played with musicians such as Alfred Harth , Barre Phillips , Kang Tae Hwan , Wadada Leo Smith , Peter Brötzmann , Ned Rothenberg , Jon Rose , Shelley Hirsch , Lauren Newton , Joëlle Léandre , Fred Frith , Derek Bailey , Satoko Fujii and Elliott Sharp . He also founded the band Altered States in 1990 and the band Phantasmagoria in 1997 , with whom he presented three albums until 2000.

Uchihashi is also a member of the international quartet The Expats . With Alfred Harth, Mitsuru Nasuno and Chris Cutler he appeared as Hope at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival in 2015 . He is also interested in solo programs and has so far released six solo albums that have been highly praised according to Allmusic . His duos with Shelley Hirsch, Hideaki Sasaki and Shizuru Ohtaka are also documented on several recordings.

Uchihashi was also the music director for the Ishinha theater group and founded his own music label, Innocent Records . He has also curated the Beyond Innocence festival in Osaka since 1996 .
