history

Lindern railway station around 1900

The station in Lindern, including the station building, was completed in 1852 and in the same year passenger and goods handling on the new Aachen-Düsseldorf-Ruhrorter railway began. The first plans provided for an operation by the Euregiobahn , but later it was decided to wing the Rhein-Niers-Bahn from Aachen in Lindern, which required electrification of the route because of the vehicles used on the line .

The station was rebuilt again to resume local rail passenger transport on the Lindern – Heinsberg line. New points have been installed in the west end, which enable trains to and from Aachen to use platform 3. On this track, train cover signals for the wing of the Rhein-Niers-Bahn were also set up, the remaining shape signal showing permanently Hp 0 was replaced by a fully functional Ks signal and the overhead line was rebuilt in the course of the electrification of the line to Heinsberg. With the completion of the renovation work, Lindern has been a railway station again since November 10, 2013.

Quality assessment

In the quality assessment of the Rhineland local transport association from the end of 2014, the station received an overall rating of 90.1% (corresponds to the rating “acceptable with minor, negligible defects”). At the end of 2013, the station received an overall rating of 70% (corresponding to the rating “unacceptable”), the second worst result of all 187 traffic stations tested.

future

There were considerations to extend the Jülich – Linnich railway line operated by the Rurtalbahn GmbH via Linnich to Lindern (as was already planned at the beginning of the 19th century) in order to get a connection to the Heinsberger Bahn. However, due to the cost of a new Rur bridge, this consideration has not yet become part of the planning.
