geography
location
Flahstrasse is located northeast of Geilenkirchen in the valley of the Wurm on the northern city limits.
Waters
The worm supplied numerous mills with water over a river length of 53 km . The source of the worm is south of Aachen at 265 m above sea level. The confluence with the Rur is in the town of Kempen in the town of Heinsberg at 32 m above sea level. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, worm straightening was carried out. The curving, now and then meandering course of the river disappeared in favor of a simple route . The river length shortened and the flow speed increased. For many people in Flahstrasse, too, flood protection improved , for the mills it was the end.

The mother church of Würm is named in a document from Bishop Werner von Münster from 1137. The first mention of the church in "Würm" can be found in 1308 in liber valoris , the book of values of the churches of the Diocese of Cologne . A three-aisled brick church was built in the 15th century . Due to the effects of the war, it was blown up on November 18, 1944 and largely destroyed. On August 19, 1951, the foundation stone was laid for a new church, which was inaugurated on May 1, 1953.
In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen , the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Gereon Würm was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Bonifatius Geilenkirchen .
