The place is located above the Wurmtal between the villages of Brachelen , Linnich and Randerath and about 20 meters higher than its neighboring villages. The resulting different wind conditions have resulted in several wind turbines being built around the site in the past ten years.
Waters
An above-ground watershed runs through Lindern along Linnicher Straße . While the western part of the village is inclined towards the Wurm , the eastern part is inclined towards the Rur .
In heavy rain and when snowmelts , the surface water flows from the Lindern-West area (GEBKZ 282889) over the Beeckfließ in the direction of the Wurm. The area Lindern-Ost flows over the Linnicher Mühlenteich (GEWKZ 2826) into the Rur.

Local history
Lindern has a thousand-year history and used to be part of the Heinsberg Office in Jülich . A court to Lindern came in 945 as a gift from Archbishop Wichfrid (around 900; † July 9, 953 ) from Cologne to the Ursulak monastery there. Until the 15th century, the lords of the country were the von Heinsberg as owners of the Brachelen court to which the place belonged. They also had in fiefdoms . In 1437, the Heinsberg Gangolfuss monastery acquired a farm in Lindern from the local Norbertine monastery. Another court (castle) appeared as a Randerather fief .
Lindern was of particular importance in the event of war, as the hill between Lindern and Linnich had tactical value. The owner of this hill was able to see all of Linnich and Lindern. In the battle of Linnich in 1444 there were serious disputes between the warring parties in the area of the municipality, which the monument on the Hubertus Cross still reminds of today.
In 1828 Lindern had a total of 383 inhabitants, in 1852 there were 345 inhabitants and belonged to the Brachelen district. In the course of the regional reform on January 1, 1972, the mayor's office was dissolved and Lindern came to Geilenkirchen. Legal successor is the city of Geilenkirchen according to Section 29 of the Aachen Act . In 1973 the Marienkapelle was built.
Church history
The parish of St. Johann Baptist was a branch of the church in Brachelen until 1857 . After the diocese of Aachen was abolished in 1827, Lindern and its mother parish were assigned to the Geilenkirchen deanery . Lindern has been an independent parish since June 5, 1857. The majority of the population consists of Catholics .
In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen , the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Johann Baptist Lindern was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Bonifatius Geilenkirchen .
