After decades of interest in art and literature, Arlt began to work in literature at the end of the last millennium. Arlt took his first steps as the author of various writings, a book, scripts, a play as well as crime stories and fairy tales.

In 1998 Arlt began to turn more and more to the fine arts and dealt intensively with it. He designed his first exhibitions mainly with painting, then, following his manual skills, he focused on the design of sculptures made of structural steel. Often they are figures that appear human. Sometimes the works were created out of a story and visualize his thoughts and feelings. As an autodidact , he developed techniques that were once developed completely free of role models, but were also inspired by Alberto Giacometti . In doing so, Arlt developed its very own form of build-up welding technology . Mostly human motifs are created, which are often based on self-written stories. The works of art are created for indoor or outdoor use.

Initially, Arlt left the material to its own after assembly, which was accompanied by oxidation , but later reworked it and then sealed the structure with clear varnish in order to preserve the status during creation.

Arlt has also created smaller sculptures as prizes and recognitions in public life, such as the 2015 Rolf Honorary Prize of the Geilenkirchen Social Democratic Party and the prize sculptures (unique pieces) created in 2018 for the winners of the European Piano Award as part of the Geilenkirchen piano summer .

In a very short time he made a name for himself in the region and in neighboring countries and was invited to tender for the design of public spaces. In 2017, Arlt won the tender from the city of Hückelhoven for a sculpture at the Sophiastraße roundabout in Hückelhoven with its model gate to the change from coal to trade . Implementation is scheduled for March 2022.
