Scherpenseel is a western district of Übach-Palenberg in the Heinsberg district and a street village along the L 42 between Ubach over Worms ( NL ) and Geilenkirchen- Teveren . In the center of the village the L 225 (Scherpenseel - Marienberg - Palenberg - Übach - Boscheln - Baesweiler ) meets the L 42.
In August 2010, 1,886 people lived here.
Scherpenseel has a Catholic primary school , a kindergarten and a riding hall. The church “St. Assumption Day". The former customs office is located at the southern end of the village .

In 1794, during the French era, the "Scherpenseel" mairie was formed, which became the mayor's office of Scherpenseel from 1816 in the Prussian district of Geilenkirchen . In 1935 the municipality of Übach-Palenberg was created from the merger of Frelenberg , Scherpenseel and Übach .
