Übach is a district of Übach-Palenberg in the Heinsberg district .

Übach is the most populous district; on December 31, 2006, 6,945 people lived here.

The place has the name twin Ubach over Worms (German: Übach an der Wurm) lying a few kilometers to the west on the Dutch side .

history

Remains of an early medieval burial ground were discovered several times on the northeast edge of today's town; the finds cover the period from the middle of the 6th century to the middle of the 7th century. For some graves, stone slabs from Roman times were used.

The first mention of Übach is 1172 . A noblewoman who goes by the name Übach was at the time Ministerialin of the Thorn Abbey on the Meuse . The abbey later ruled over Übach. In 1436, the Übach jury seal was awarded. In 1794 the French formed the Mairie ( mayor's office ) Übach in the Meuse Inferieure department. In 1815 Übach came to Prussia and formed the mayor's office in Übach in the Geilenkirchen district . In 1827 Übach had 1268 inhabitants. Übach has been a municipality in the Baesweiler mayor's office since 1846. From 1917 to 1962 hard coal was mined at the " Carolus Magnus " colliery .

In 1935, Übach's independence ends; the community Übach-Palenberg is created from the merger of the communities Frelenberg , Scherpenseel and Übach.

The nearest train station is Übach-Palenberg on the Aachen – Mönchengladbach line . The next junction is "Alsdorf" on the A 44 . AVV buses connect Übach with all other parts of the city as well as Alsdorf , Baesweiler , Geilenkirchen , Herzogenrath and the Dutch towns of Ubach over Worms and Landgraaf .
