Mehmet Topuz (born September 7, 1983 in Şefaatli in Yozgat Province ) is a Turkish football player .

Career

Mehmet Topuz started his career at Kayseri Yolspor. As a youth player he was committed by Kayserispor and initially played for the youth teams. As an 18-year-old, he caused a sensation with his long-range shots and dribbling in the Turkish 2nd division. Then he rose to the U-21 selection of Turkey. After Kayserispor's rise to the Süper Lig , he is considered one of the hopes for the Turkish national team. Topuz can play as a right full-back , right midfielder and as an attacking midfielder .

The transfer scuffle to Fenerbahçe

On June 4, 2009, Topuz announced that they would be moving to Beşiktaş Istanbul . His manager Metin Korkmaz emphasized several times that Topuz had chosen Beşiktaş and only wanted to switch to this club. He also said that there was only an oral agreement with Beşiktaş and nothing had been signed.

On June 5, 2009, however, Fenerbahçe Istanbul announced on its website that they had reached an agreement with Kayserispor on a move and acquired the transfer rights to Mehmet Topuz. Furthermore, the club management thanked the club management of Kayserispor and its president Recep Mamur for the successful acquisition of the transfer rights. Topuz then said in an interview that he would not play for Fenerbahçe and would not sign a contract with Fenerbahçe, if necessary he would play another year at Kayserispor and fulfill his contract until 2010.

Süleyman Hurma, the Kayserispors manager responsible for the transfer, repeated on June 6, 2009 that an agreement had been reached with Fenerbahçe and the transfer rights had been transferred. If Topuz really wants to play at Beşiktaş, the two Istanbul clubs would have to come to an agreement. He also complained in the live interview that Beşiktaş was negotiating with the player without having reached an agreement with Kayserispor about the transfer.

On June 13, 2009, Topuz finally signed a three-year contract with Fenerbahçe Istanbul. He revised his previous statements that he would only play for Beşiktaş and not Fenerbahçe, explaining that he had been pressured to do so for "marketing" reasons. A transfer fee was not mentioned, according to media reports, the transfer, which included a player swap with Gökhan Emreciksin , had a total value of 11 million euros.

After he had not received another contract extension after his contract with Fenerbahçe, Topuz behaved with some clubs. But since he could not come to an agreement with any of the interested parties during the summer transfer period, he spent the first half of the 2016/17 season without a club.

National team

Mehmet Topuz completed his first international match for Turkey on March 1, 2006 against the Czech Republic ; he was in the starting line-up and played the full 90 minutes.
