The Battle of Linnich (also Hubertusschlacht ) was a battle in the area of ​​today's city of Linnich in the Düren district .

The battle took place on November 3, 1444, the celebration of the name of St. Hubertus . In the Second War of the Geldrian Succession , Duke Gerhard von Jülich-Berg won the battle over Arnold von Egmond , the Duke of the Duchy of Geldern . In gratitude and as a reminder of the fight, Gerhard donated the Order of Hubert based on the example of the Golden Fleece of the Burgundian Duke Philip the Good . The veneration of Saint Hubert in the Rhineland has increased sharply since then.

In the Peace of Dülken, Gerhard nevertheless renounced his inheritance claim and later sold it to the Duke of Burgundy .
