Gottfried Dossing

Gottfried Dossing (born August 7, 1906 in Lindern ; † September 24, 1997 in Aachen ) was a German Roman Catholic prelate and chief executive officer of Misereor (1959–1976).

Life

After graduating from the Couvengymnasium in Aachen, Gottfried Dossing studied theology and philosophy at the Aachen seminary and was ordained as a priest by the Aachen diocese in 1934 . He was a group leader in the " Bund New Germany ", a part of the Catholic youth movement that was banned by the National Socialists in 1939 . From 1939 to 1959 he worked for the Pontifical Work for the Propagation of the Faith ( missio ), most recently as its general secretary.

After the foundation of the Episcopal Relief Organization Misereor by Josef Cardinal Frings with the support of Alfons Erb von Pax Christi in 1958, Dossing first became head of "Aktion Misereor" , and from 1959 the first general manager of Misereor. In 1976 he retired, but was still a member of the Advisory Board at Misereor.

Gottfried Dossing was involved in numerous social projects and the Christians in the Holy Land . He was a member of the German Association of the Holy Land . In 1976 he was from Cardinal Grand Master Maximilien Cardinal de Furstenberg for Knight of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem appointed and on May 8, 1976 Cathedral of Trier by Franz Hengsbach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy , invested .
