history

Beeck and the surrounding area around 1800

The earliest traces of settlers point to the 1st – 2nd centuries. Century AD, when the Romans had conquered the Celtic-Germanic settlement area west of the Rhine.

A further settlement of this small valley depression on the brook arose around the later House Beeck. Beeck developed on fertile loess soil into an agricultural clustered village . The rulership was exercised by the Knights of Randerath (Randerode), who from 1084 also owned House Beeck. In the 14th century it was under the authority of Randerath as part of the Duchy of Lorraine and from 1392 it belonged to the Duchy of Jülich .

In 1794 (the French Revolution had begun in 1789 ) French troops occupied the left bank of the Rhine (" French era "). Beeck became so French and came to the canton of Geilenkirchen , Marie Würm. After the war of liberation 1813–1815 it became the district of Geilenkirchen and thus the Prussian Rhine Province .

In the First World War Beeck was spared from damage. During the Second World War , Beeck was involved in the Siegfried Line . In November 1944 there was heavy fighting around Geilenkirchen ( Operation Clipper ; Geilenkirchen was occupied on November 19), Beeck was 90% destroyed.

The former independent municipality (in the Immendorf-Würm office), to which Beeck also belonged, was incorporated into the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1972 and is now a district of Geilenkirchen.

politics

The municipality of Beeck is represented by a local mayor towards the city council and the administration of the city of Geilenkirchen.
