Joseph Schröder
Peter Joseph Schröder (born April 16, 1849 in Beeck near Geilenkirchen , † September 5, 1903 in Elberfeld ) was a German Catholic theology professor in Liège , Washington, DC and Münster .
Life
Schröder first studied at the Jesuit University Gregoriana (Dr. phil; Dr. theol .; ordination in Rome May 18, 1873). On August 1, 1874 he became a lecturer at the Liège seminary and later professor of philosophy at the Episcopal Seminary St. Truiden / St. Trond (Liege).
In September 1888 he became a professor for dogmatics and moral theology at the seminary in Cologne .
In 1889 he took over the chair for dogmatics at the newly established Catholic University of America in Washington, DC In 1898 he gave up his Washington chair, received a professorship for dogmatic theology at the Prussian Academy in Münster and was the first rector of the newly established 1902/1903 University of Munster . In 1903 he was appointed professor of pastoral theology at the University of Strasbourg , but died suddenly of pneumonia in the same year. He was buried in his home parish in Würm .
Honors
In Schröder's birthplace Beeck near Geilenkirchen, the main street is now called "Prof.-Schröder-Straße".
He was an honorary member of the Catholic student union Saxonia Münster in the CV .
