Honsdorf is a district of Geilenkirchen in the district of Heinsberg in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Honsdorf is located northeast of the core town of Geilenkirchen on the northern city limits on the edge of the Wurmtal below a terrace slope.

The Beeckfließ (GEWKZ 28286) runs through Honsdorf . Before the colliery closed, the Beeckfließ also served as a mine and service water channel for the former Carl Alexander mine in Baesweiler . It flows through the villages of Floverich , Apweiler , Beeck , Leiffarth and Honsdorf and flows into the Wurm after 13.3 km below Honsdorf. Before Beeck, the Beeckfließ picks up the water from the Gereonsweiler Fließ. Behind Beeck, the water flows in from the Immendorfer Fließ.

Honsdorf is a loosely built hamlet . The remains of the former moated castle Haus Honsdorf are now a larger farm on the north-western edge of the village.

Local history

In earlier times Honsdorf belonged to the Jülich office of Randerath . The castle of Honsdorf was a Randerather fief . For the local history, see the article on the Honsdorf house itself.

Honsdorf had a total of 103 inhabitants in 1828, belonging to the mayor's office of Würm . In 1852 there were 246 inhabitants and the place still belonged to the mayor's office of Würm and thus to the Immendorf-Würm office. As part of the regional reform , the Immendorf-Würm office was dissolved on January 1, 1972. Legal successor is the city of Geilenkirchen according to Section 29 of the Aachen Act .

Honsdorf and the places Beeck, Flahstrasse, Kleinsiersdorf, Leiffarth, Müllendorf, Thomashof and Würm form the Roman Catholic parish of Würm. In the course of a parish reform in the diocese of Aachen , the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Gereon Würm was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Bonifatius Geilenkirchen .

Honsdorf is connected to the public transport network of the Aachener Verkehrs-Verbund by a WestVerkehr bus line. The immediate surrounding towns and the Lindern train station can be reached with the short-haul tariff (€ 1.70). In addition to the buses that run according to the timetable on fixed lines, the multi-bus can also be requested.
