John Rahn

John Rahn is an American composer , musicologist and educator .

Rahn studied bassoon and composition at Cal Poly Pomona , the Juilliard School of Music and Princeton University . He is Professor of Composition and Music Theory and Associate Director of the Music School at the University of Washington . Here he gave seminars for computer music from 1983 to 1991 and was founding director of the Computer Center from 1988 to 1990.

His computer music symphony Sea of ​​Souls was performed at the 1994 International Computer Music Conference in Denmark and in October 1995 at the Spanish Computer Music Conference in Cuenza. In 2000 he completed the chamber opera The New Mother . In 2001 he helped found a state conservatory in Barcelona. Between 1983 and 1994 he was editor of Perspectives of New Music magazine . In addition to numerous articles in journals such as Journal of Music Theory , Music Theory Spectrum , In Theory Only , Computer Music Journal , Contemporary Music Review , College Music Symposium , Musicus , Musikometrika , Cahiers de l'IRCAM , World of Music and Current Musicology , Rahn published the Books Basic Atonal Theory , Perspectives on Musical Aesthetics and Music Inside Out .
