The West Transport GmbH is a regional transport company in Heinsberg district . The company, also known locally as west , was founded in late 2014. It emerged from the company WestEnergie und Verkehr GmbH , whose transport division was spun off into the new company in 2015. WestEnergie und Verkehr was created in 2008 by changing the legal form from WestEnergie und Verkehr GmbH & Co. KG . This company in turn emerged in August 2002 through the merger of Kreiswerke Heinsberg GmbH (KWH) with Erkelenzer Westdeutsche Licht- und Kraftwerke AG (WLK) . The company is based in Geilenkirchen . Another customer center is located in Erkelenz. The NEW AG and the circle Heinsberg involved in society.

It owns West-Gleis GmbH and Kreisverkehrsgesellschaft GmbH as 100% subsidiaries . On August 1, 2015, the energy division was spun off and the commercial register was changed (renamed) to West-Verkehr GmbH .

traffic

railroad

The West Traffic owns the Geilenkirchener circular path , the railway Heinsberg-alleviating and connecting railway Klinkum-Wegberg-Wildenrath . The infrastructure maintenance of the museum Selfkantbahn route and the handling of goods at the standard gauge Geilenkirchen train station are also in the hands of west . The Heinsberg – Lindern railway line is leased to Rurtalbahn GmbH . Furthermore, the wholly-owned subsidiary West-Gleis GmbH, as a registered railway infrastructure company and railway company, is responsible for the operation of the connecting railway Klinkum – Prüfcenter Wegberg-Wildenrath.

Public transport

The company's own transport services are predominantly carried out by the wholly owned subsidiary Kreisverkehrsgesellschaft Heinsberg mbH (KVH) . KVH provides the services with its own drivers and drivers from west, with west making the entire vehicle fleet available to KVH for a fee and managing operations and arranging business. As a member of the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV), the transport company operates local public transport in the Heinsberg district and supplies a 915-kilometer route network with around 90 of its own and 80 other buses from contract companies. The transport offer is mainly geared towards the transportation of schoolchildren and the serving of around 100 schools, which is why, apart from a few express bus connections, the departure times of the buses on the lines do not follow a uniform timetable. While the traffic with large regular buses often ends after 7 p.m. on weekdays, buses are only used on the main lines at the weekend.

In order to still be able to offer transport in the so-called off- peak times , a call bus system, the so-called multi-bus, is used . This enables minibuses to be used on call (on-call bus) in defined areas, outside of the otherwise binding routes / routes, from stops to the desired destination.

WestVerkehr also owns a historic Mercedes-Benz O 3500 bus , which, in accordance with the Passenger Transport Act, has a permit for use in rental cars and also functions as a shuttle bus at events in the region .

Since 2014, the so-called bike and leisure bus with a bike trailer with line number 499 has been traveling between several bike hubs on Sundays and public holidays in the summer months .

With the timetable change on January 1, 2020, WestVerkehr took over the operation of eleven previous bus routes of the Busverkehr Rheinland (BVR) in the Heinsberg district, and a new city bus route in Hückelhoven was added.

WestVerkehr's vehicle fleet consists of Mercedes-Benz Citaro , MAN Lion's City and NL 263 / NG 313 buses and Solaris Urbino III and IV buses . WestVerkehr also has a Mercedes-Benz O 408 from the 1990s.
