The Pützbach rises in Ratheim an der Silberquelle , flows along the Rur terrace below Krickelberg and Garsbeck and flows into the Rur behind Vogelsang.

Since there were problems with the drainage of the creek as a result of mountain damage in the mid-1970s, almost its entire length was canalized.

history

Emergence

The hamlet of Krickelberg is one of the old Ratheim settlement centers. Its origin can be traced back to the "Hof zu Krickelberg", one of the 10 large late medieval feudal estates of Ratheim, whose first documentary mention dates from 1405. The fief originally belonged to Heinsberg, later to the man chamber Wassenberg. The "Hof zu Krickelberg" was around 200 old acres (60 hectares) and was covered by the Rur in the west, the Vogelsang and Garsbeck farms in the north, the Schröv forests in the east and the Palander-Winkelhauser- (Kulenburger ) and the Heinsberger Hof (Godesacker). In the original cadastre , the farm still has large, rounded-off areas between the Krickelberger Hofland and the Schröv, and apart from smaller areas, it was leased as a closed unit. Even today, larger parts of these lands are cultivated by Krickelberg farmers.

After the connection to electrification took place in 1911, Krickelberg was connected to the general water supply in 1935, as all wells and springs dried up due to mining effects.

Place name

The name is likely to be derived from the Middle High German crawl ( sloe ), which indicates the vegetation on the terrace slope .

religion

Krickelberg has always belonged to the Catholic parish in Ratheim. In addition, the majority of the few Protestant Reformed families in Ratheim (except in Millich ) had settled in Krickelberg in earlier times ; they belonged to the Wassenberg parish until 1962, and since then to Ratheim-Gerderath.
(Population in 1827: 104, 34 of them Protestant)

The Krickelberger Wegekreuz, which was created in 1870, has been an important part of the annual Corpus Christi and petition processions of the Ratheim parish of St. John the Baptist since time immemorial . Also, in the traditionally held on the first Sunday in September Pilgrimage to Maria-Ophoven the first breakpoint for foot pilgrims .

school

As early as the 16th century, Krickelberg was important for the surrounding area as the central location of a privately run school.

The school, which had existed in Krickelberg for several years without a higher authorization, was recognized as an elementary school and Heinrich Houben von Heinsberg was given permission by the royal government to serve as a teacher for one year. For the school in Krickelberg, the farmer Gerhard Adams von Krickelberg and the farmer Johann Heinrich Diek von Vogelsang were appointed headmasters under the direction of Pastor Göbbels.

In the year [1560 ???] a school in Krickelberg is mentioned for the first time, which was promoted with great emphasis during a visitation . It appears to have been a community-sponsored private school housed in a private home. The following teachers worked at this school - a simultaneous school :
