The NEW AG is a utility company in the fields of energy , water supply and sanitation , in particular, in the region Mönchengladbach and the Lower Rhine operates. The shares of NEW AG are predominantly in municipal hands.
history
In December 1998 Niederrheinischeversorgung und Verkehr AG (NVV) was created from the Mönchengladbach municipal utilities and a merger of the RWE holdings Niederrheinische Licht- und Kraftwerke AG (NLK) and RWE Power Supply Mönchengladbach .
On December 21, 2010 the cities of Mönchengladbach and Viersen founded Niederrhein Kommunalholding GmbH and Niederrheinischeversorgung und Verkehr AG was renamed NVV AG . The city of Mönchengladbach's transport and swimming pool operations, which had been part of the NVV up to that point, were spun off into NVV mobil und aktiv GmbH (from January 9, 2012 NEW mobil and aktiv Mönchengladbach ). The Viersener Verkehrs- und Bäderbetriebe, which had previously been part of the Niederrheinwerke Viersen, initially operated separately as Niederrheinwerke Viersen mobil GmbH and Niederrheinwerke Viersen aktiv GmbH, but became Niederrheinwerke mobil und aktiv GmbH in August 2011 (from January 9, 2012 NEW mobil and aktiv Viersen ) merged. After the restructuring, Niederrheinwerke Viersen GmbH , which was only responsible for energy and water, became an almost one hundred percent subsidiary of the new NVV AG, only shares worth 100 euros remained with the city of Viersen, which otherwise only held its shares indirectly via the municipal holding company and NVV AG previous company remained involved. After the restructuring, the share of the municipal holding in NVV AG initially amounted to 56.83%, the remaining shares of 43.17% were owned by RWE.
On January 9, 2012, the new umbrella brand NEW was introduced for all municipal holding companies (including the transport and swimming pool companies that are legally independent from NEW AG). Niederrhein Kommunalholding GmbH was renamed NEW Kommunalholding GmbH , and the previous NVV AG was renamed NEW AG. On January 1, 2015, the supply division of West Energie und Verkehr GmbH was integrated into NEW AG. NEW AG previously held a 50% stake in West Energie und Verkehr. Their transport division was spun off as a further subsidiary of the municipal holding company into the new company WestVerkehr GmbH . In return, Kreiswerke Heinsberg GmbH acquired a stake in the municipal holding company.
Ownership structure
NEW Kommunalholding GmbH holds 60.05% and Innogy SE 39.95% in NEW AG . The city of Mönchengladbach holds 20.05%, the development company of the city of Mönchengladbach mbH with 43.25%, the city of Viersen with 20.04% and Kreiswerke Heinsberg GmbH with 16.66%.

Electricity, water and gas supply
Network operator
NEW Netz GmbH operates the supply networks for electricity , natural gas and drinking water . The concession area for electricity extends over an area of around 1,329 square kilometers. It includes the cities of Grevenbroich , Korschenbroich , Wassenberg , Erkelenz , Wegberg , Niederkrüchten , Hückelhoven , Übach-Palenberg , Geilenkirchen , Viersen , Tönisvorst , Mönchengladbach , Jüchen as well as the communities Gangelt , Selfkant and Waldfeucht . Around 830,000 people live in this area. The NEW electricity distribution network for medium and low voltage is located in the control area of the transmission network operator Amprion .
The network area for gas corresponds to the electricity supply area with the exception of the cities of Geilenkirchen and Übach-Palenberg and the municipalities of Selfkant, Waldfeucht and Gangelt and thus has an area of 955 km² with around 645,000 inhabitants. The gas distribution network is in the market area of NetConnect Germany (NCG). It is supplied with the different natural gas qualities H and L gas .
Of the three sectors, water supply has the smallest supply area; the cities of Mönchengladbach, Grevenbroich and parts of Korschenbroich with an area of 402 square kilometers and almost 435,000 inhabitants are supplied.
Energy and water supplier
In the area of its own network area, NEW is the basic supplier for electricity and natural gas. The distribution of electricity, natural gas and water products is guaranteed by the supplier, NEW Niederrhein Energie und Wasser GmbH . The focus of sales activities is in the company's own supply area.
For the supply of electricity and gas for domestic and commercial customers outside of the root zone in 2013 was together with the Stadtwerke Neuss the click Energie GmbH & Co. KG , founded their products through an Internet portal offering.
Electricity labeling
According to §42 EnWG on electricity labeling , since December 15, 2005, all energy supply companies in Germany are obliged to publish the origin of their electricity.

Sanitation
NEW takes on the disposal of wastewater from the urban areas of Mönchengladbach and Viersen with around 340,000 inhabitants and around 241 square kilometers. This includes the areas of planning and construction, property drainage and operation of the sewer network / water maintenance.
Energy services
NEW advises private and commercial customers on questions of energy generation, consumption and applications. In addition, NEW offers contracting solutions, i.e. the management, maintenance and repair of energy systems on behalf of customers.
