The NEW mobile and active Mönchengladbach (until early 2012 NPT mobile and active GmbH ) is a public company , the Westphalian North Rhine for the transport and Bäderbetrieb in the city Mönchengladbach is responsible. The company also has line concessions in the Rhine district of Neuss , in the district of Viersen and in the district of Heinsberg .

Emergence

The NEW mobile and active Mönchengladbach GmbH was created in early 2011 as the NPT mobile and active; it is a 100 percent subsidiary of NEW Kommunalholding , a joint venture between the cities of Mönchengladbach and Viersen . The city of Mönchengladbach brought the NEW AG transport and swimming pool operations into the new company. In a similar way, NEW mobil und aktiv Viersen emerged as a sister company from the transport and swimming pool companies of what was then Niederrheinwerke Viersen.

Local transport

Under the brand NEW 'MÖBUS (short MÖBUS ) the NEW operates mobile and active Mönchengladbach as transport companies regular services. NEW mobil und aktiv Mönchengladbach is a member of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR).

history

historical logo Möbus

Today's bus operation emerged from the horse-drawn tram founded in 1881 . After electrification and the conversion to an electric tram in 1900, operations were split between the two neighboring cities of Munich-Gladbach and Rheydt a year later . Apart from the period between 1929 and 1933, the two companies remained separate, only lines 1 and 2 on the route between the two cities were operated jointly. After the Second World War , both cities began converting tram routes to bus services. Rheydt first switched to the trolleybus used from 1952 and ended its own tram operation in 1959. Ten years later, Mönchengladbach closed the last line. In 1973 the Rheydter trolleybus was finally converted to diesel-powered vehicles. Since then, public transport on the roads in Rheydt, which was incorporated into Mönchengladbach in 1975, has been provided exclusively by diesel buses.

TaxiBus

The so-called TaxiBus runs on lines 011 and 012, and its journeys only take place if the passenger has ordered in advance. This must be ordered at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. The TaxiBus trips are carried out by the local taxi company. This service was used to avoid unnecessary journeys without passengers. The tickets and prices of the VRR apply . Lines 011 and 012 are only served by subcontractors of NEW in school traffic and on some morning and midday trips.

Vehicle fleet

NEW MöBus bus ( Solaris Urbino 12, car 1013), here at the main station / Europaplatz as line SB4 to Giesenkirchen (2011)

The bus fleet consists of 220 buses from the manufacturers MAN , Mercedes-Benz and Solaris . In 2010, the Urbino III Solaris buses were used at MöBus for the first time. The average age of the buses is 4.8 years. In autumn 2011, two hybrid buses from the Mercedes-Benz and Solaris brands were added to the fleet. The Mercedes-Benz Citaro  G Bluetech Hybrid (car no. 1161) was taken out of service in March 2019, the Solaris Urbino 12 Hybrid with the number 1115 is still in use. In 2015, 14 new two-axle low - floor buses and seven Citaro C2 low-floor articulated buses were delivered by Mercedes-Benz. In 2016 and 2017, Solaris New Urbino buses were purchased. In 2018, the largest vehicle procurement department of NEW and its predecessor companies in the last few decades put 28 Mercedes-Benz Citaro C2 buses into service. The delivery consisted of 13 solo and 15 articulated cars.

The first two digits of the four-digit wagon numbers correspond to the last two digits of the year the vehicle was put into operation and the last two digits form a consecutive numbering that starts annually with 01 for solo buses and 61 for articulated buses.

In addition, NEW mobil und aktiv Mönchengladbach owns four Mercedes-Benz Sprinters for public bus transport.

Subcontractors

A total of four subcontractors drive on behalf of NEW:

  • Motor transport Schwalmtal
  • Kremer's bus trips
  • Wallrath
  • Motor transport Gerresheim
  • West bus

Kraftverkehr Schwalmtal and Kremers Busreisen travel on lines 011, 012 and SB88. In addition, Kraftverkehr Schwalmtal supports line 013. Kremers Busreisen supports NEW occasionally on line SB81, as well as on line 017 during the summer holidays. Wallrath runs on lines 029 and 031. Kraftverkehr Gerresheim operates line 097 to neighboring Jüchen.

West-Bus is a joint venture in which NEW is involved. It does not use its own vehicles, but only provides drivers who operate their lines with vehicles from NEW. In order to comply with the self-provision quota required for direct allocation of the route network, those 126 drivers from West-Bus, who mainly use Mönchengladbach routes, are to switch to NEW mobil and aktiv in future.

Entry control system

The entry control system (EKS for short) consists of an electronic reader that checks the validity of an e-ticket (chip card, mobile phone ticket and online ticket ) for temporal and spatial validity. It was introduced on July 19, 2010. The investment costs amounted to 750,000  euros , of which the state of North Rhine-Westphalia contributed 600,000 euros.

Swimming pools

NEW mobil und aktiv Mönchengladbach operates a total of four public swimming pools in Mönchengladbach. These are the Volksbad ( outdoor pool ) at the Volksgarten in Peter-Krall-Straße 63 in the Bungt district , the Schlossbad Niederrhein in Wickrath ( indoor pool and outdoor pool merge here), Auf dem Damm 107, the Stadtbad Rheydt (indoor pool) in Pahlkestraße 10 and the Vitusbad (indoor pool) in Breitenbachstraße 52. The Vitusbad was opened in 2006 as a replacement for the central pool ( wave pool ) which was destroyed by fire in July 2001 and is located on Lüpertzender Straße .
