Lüttelforst is a part of the municipality of Schwalmtal in the district of Viersen in North Rhine-Westphalia . Until 1915 Lüttelforst formed its own municipality in what was then the Kempen district in the Prussian Rhine Province .

Lüttelforst is an old Waldhufendorf that extends along the street of the same name parallel to the Schwalm river on its north bank. In 1885 the municipality of Lüttelforst had an area of ​​4.52 km².

history

The emergence of Lüttelforst as a Hufensiedlung goes back to the development of the state in the High Middle Ages . Lüttelforst was first mentioned in a document in 1255 in connection with a donation to the St. Jakobus Chapel there. In 1258 the Jakobus Chapel was elevated to a parish church.

Lüttelforst has formed a rural community in the Burgwaldniel mayor's office in the Kempen district since the 19th century . On April 1, 1915, the three communities Burgwaldniel , Kirspelwaldniel and Lüttelforst were merged to form the new community and mayor's office Waldniel . Waldniel in turn merged with Amern in 1970 to form the Schwalmtal community.
