NetConnect Germany GmbH & Co. KG (NCG) based in Ratingen, together with Gaspool, is one of the two market area managers on the German natural gas market .

background

Market area managers are joint ventures of several independent transmission system operators . The gas network operator Open Grid Europe (formerly E.ON Gastransport) and Bayernets merged their respective H-gas market areas on October 1, 2008, thus realizing the first supra-regional market area cooperation in Germany; for this purpose the company NetConnect Germany was founded. The company's tasks are balancing group management , the provision and operation of a virtual trading point , control energy management and the provision of a web-based market area information platform for viewing billing and control energy data, among other things . As the market area manager, NetConnect Germany ensures the operational handling of the market area cooperation.

Bayernets originally held 25.1% and Open Grid Europe 74.9% of the company shares. From the very beginning, however, it was the intention to take on further cooperation partners and shareholders. As of October 1, 2009, the NetConnect Germany market area was expanded to include the H-gas market areas of Fluxys TENP, GRTgaz Germany and terranets bw. With the amalgamation of the Open Grid Europe L-Gas, Thyssengas H-Gas, Thyssengas L-Gas market areas with the previous H-Gas market area NetConnect Germany on April 1, 2011, the first cross-quality market area in Germany was finally created. Since then, in addition to Open Grid Europe and Bayernets, the following network operators have been shareholders in NetConnect Germany: Fluxys TENP , GRTgaz Germany , Terranets BW and Thyssengas . NetConnect Germany is thus the largest German market area with a high-pressure pipeline system with a total length of around 20,000 kilometers and connects more than 500 downstream distribution networks , mainly in western and southern Germany.

In 2018 Gaspool and Netconnect announced that they would merge their market areas on October 1, 2021. Both companies are obliged to do this under the new gas network access ordinance.
