history

In 1926 the stock corporation for coal utilization (AGKV) was founded, which is later renamed Ruhrgas AG .

In 2003, Ruhrgas AG was taken over by E.ON after a controversial ministerial decision . Gas transport was founded by E.ON Ruhrgas as an independent subsidiary in 2004 and was renamed E.ON Gastransport in 2006 . In 2008 E.ON Gastransport took over ownership of the E.ON Ruhrgas networks in Germany.

The new name Open Grid Europe GmbH was entered in the commercial register on September 1, 2010. This was accompanied by full organizational unbundling from the parent company; thus the company was set up as a so-called Independent Transmission Operator (ITO).

In connection with the simplification of the group structure announced by E.ON in August 2011, the possible sale of Open Grid Europe was announced. In May 2012 the sale for a value of 3.2 billion euros to a consortium of infrastructure funds consisting of Macquarie , Infinity Investments, a fund of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority , the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and MEAG was announced. Macquarie had already taken over Thyssengas in 2011 . The transaction was completed on July 23, 2012 after the antitrust approvals had been granted.
