The terra nets bw GmbH , based in Stuttgart is a transmission system operator for natural gas . As an independent transmission operator (ITO) for natural gas, your most important task is the safe, economical, uninterrupted and non-discriminatory transport of natural gas in the 1934 km long pipeline network in Baden-Württemberg. terranets bw is part of the NetConnect Germany market area . In addition, terranets bw operates a 2000 km long message and telecommunications network.

background

In 1961, Gasversorgung Süddeutschland GmbH (GVS) was founded with the aim of setting up a comprehensive natural gas network in Baden-Württemberg. In 2007 the network operation was founded as a subsidiary GVS Netz of the gas trading company GVS (Gasversorgung Süddeutschland) in order to meet the legal unbundling requirements . GVS Netz was initially only the operator of the transmission network and leased the technical facilities required for network operation from GVS (so-called lease model). Since the stricter unbundling requirements of the 3rd EU internal market package and the amended Energy Industry Act (EnWG) had to be implemented in March 2012 at the latest, further restructuring took place. From July 2011 GVS Netz was a sister company of GVS, with full ownership of the gas network.

Since March 1, 2012, GVS Netz has been trading under the name terranets bw . The name change seals the conversion to the so-called “ Independent Transmission Operator ” ( ITO), which is completely different from the trading activities of GVS in terms of name and external appearance.

EnBW has been the sole shareholder of terranets BW since August 2014 .

network

The company's network is concentrated on Baden-Württemberg . There are eleven network interconnection points to other transmission system operators . In January 2016 the new construction project for the Northern Black Forest Pipeline was symbolically put into operation.

Network structure data

The network operated has a total length of 2002.59 km and is exclusively a high-pressure network (as of December 31, 2018). Almost 40% of the network has nominal widths of 500 millimeters or larger.

The table shows the proportions of the pipe diameter classes in the overall network:

Cable diameter class length proportion of
A (nominal diameter DN: x ≥ 1000 mm) 0 km 0%
B (nominal diameter DN: 700 mm ≤ x <1000 mm) 82.06 km 4.1%
C (nominal diameter DN: 500 mm ≤ x <700 mm) 704.74 km 35.2%
D (nominal diameter DN: 350 mm ≤ x <500 mm) 408.57 km 20.4%
E (nominal diameter DN: 200 mm ≤ x <350 mm) 730.11 km 36.5%
F (nominal diameter DN: 100 mm ≤ x <200 mm) 76.14 km 3.8%
G (nominal diameter DN: x <100 mm) 0.97 km 0%
total 2002.59 km 100%
