history
The place name probably refers to the location of the place along the Schwalm bank. The syllable "Har" could be traced back to the Old High German word "horo" (swamp, morass). Harbeck therefore means "swampy brook". The former St. Katharinenhof in Hau belonged to Wegberg Castle as a leasehold . According to local tradition, the erection of the village cross on Harbecker Straße goes back to a diphtheria epidemic in Harbeck in 1890.
