Wegberg primary school | Wegberg Echter Strasse 23 map |
The former Catholic elementary school Wegberg was built in 1949–51 according to plans by the architects Alfons Leitl and Hermann Lahmé from Rheydt. It is a "model building" that was designed in accordance with the school building guidelines that were relevant at the time, and was published and observed nationwide.
The school is located southeast of the historical center of Wegberg on the corner of Maaseiker Strasse and Echterstrasse and is now part of a large school center as a community elementary school. The original elementary school stands out clearly from its younger buildings in terms of shape and construction. The most striking feature of the Wegberger Schule is the division of the room program into several largely separate structures, in particular the design of all classrooms as enclosed pavilions, which are arranged at ground level and according to a specific system. According to a term commonly used in school building, it is a "chain system": Characteristic for such a type are "several class wings that are one or more storey and have a structural and functional connection with one another. Main feature: Classes are arranged in several structures and linked in a space-forming manner, but not in a center-forming manner ”. The former Catholic elementary school is the most important single building of the reconstruction after the Second World War in Wegberg due to its architectural position. It is therefore important for Wegberg according to the Monument Protection Act. Because of its supra-regional role model for a certain direction within the contemporary school system, it is also important for human history. The former Catholic elementary school in Wegberg by Alfons Leitl / Hermann Lahmé from 1949–51 is important for human history and for Wegberg. There is a public interest in their preservation and use for scientific, in particular architectural and pedagogical-historical reasons. It is therefore a monument according to § 2 (1) Monument Protection Act (DSchG) NRW. |

chapel | Wildenrath Eckartstrasse map |
It is a small chapel outside the built-up location of Wildenrath, directly on the edge of the former airport area. According to local tradition, it was used around 1870 a. a. built from bricks from the old parish church of the village. In addition to red stones, there are also some other colored (dark gray) stones that create a lively appearance. On a small, almost square floor plan, the chapel rises sharply through a steep neo-Gothic ornamental gable. Its triangular display area is flanked by lower corner accents. The opening is located in a triple stepped round arch panel; its lower area is lined with modern glazed bricks. Behind a barred gate there is a (modern) wooden figure of Johannes d. T. in half relief.
The sides and back of the chapel are also classified once, so that pilaster-like corner accentuations are created, which here, however, do not extend beyond the eaves line as in the front. On the back they are connected to each other with an angular brick arch. The roof of the chapel is gently sloping behind the towering ornamental gable; just like the gable, it is covered with a layer of concrete. The chapel still serves as a memorial and place of worship. It is the destination of a procession on patronage day. It is therefore important for Wildenrath (City of Wegberg). Since their historical building fabric, which is not uninteresting in the form language typical of the time, is no longer fully preserved, but still in sufficient quantity and clarity and is evidence of popular religiosity in Wildenrath, its preservation is based on scientific, local history and ethnological reasons within the meaning of the Monument Protection Act a public interest. The “backdrop” of four (formerly five) linden trees is to be regarded as an integral part. The Johanneskapelle in Wildenrath, Stadt Wegberg, is a monument according to § 2 DSchG NRW. It is important for Wildenrath, City of Wegberg. There is a public interest in their preservation and use for scientific reasons, in particular for reasons of local history and folklore |

Residential building | Beeck Holtumer Strasse 1 map |
The courtyard complex was already on the list of listed buildings proposed by the Rhenish Office for Monument Preservation of March 15, 1982 at Prämienstrasse 78 along Prämienstrasse. The buildings along Prämienstrasse form Holtumer Str. 1, Prämienstrasse. 78 and 80 a continuous two-storey perimeter development with the same eaves line under a uniform roof. The continuous cornice on the houses Holtumer Str. 2 / Prämienstr. 78 suggests that this could once have been a contiguous property or building. On the historical maps of the 19th century, however, the courtyard complex Holtumer Str. 1 dealt with here can always be recognized as a self-contained square. | 1726 | Nov 3, 1999 | 164

Two-storey, broad-based building, at the front, formerly probably the rear farm building to the residential building at Kirchplatz 7. From 1855, according to local tradition, it served as the mayor's office (municipal administration) for the then independent Beeck. The mayor's apartment was also located in the house at Kirchplatz 7, which meant that the togetherness was maintained. This is today u. a. still recognizable by the similar front doors
The outside to Holtumer Straße, originally like the courtyard side, was certainly brick-view, was plastered in the course of this use as a municipal administration, with detached door and window walls, and provided with an entrance in the outer left axis. Access here is through an open anteroom, covered in segmental arches and framed by small open windows. The Art Nouveau door with colored glass insert is noteworthy, and immediately above it and belonging to the same time stage, another window with leaded glazing and colored windows. The other windows on the upper floor of the same type with T-division and original handles, but without colored glazing, are also worth preserving. Inside, two large rooms are distinguished on the upper floor, formerly the office rooms, which are separated by a double-leaf door with small-scale ornamental glazing. Traces of schaplon painting can still be seen on the walls. The original character as a farm building can still be seen on the courtyard side from the two walled-up gate openings. As the former mayor's office (municipal administration) of Beeck and as part of the historical center of Beeck, which is worth protecting, the building at Holtumer Straße 10 is important for Wegberg. There is a public interest in its preservation and use for scientific, here historical reasons. According to the provisions of § 2 (1) DSchG NRW, it is therefore a monument. |

Residential building (so-called chaplaincy) | Beeck Holtumer Strasse 19 map |
The so-called Kaplanei is a free-standing, three-axis brick building on two floors from the middle of the 19th century. The construction period is also expressed in the single-axis central projection with a classicist flat gable, which divides the eaves side of the house, which is covered with a half-hip roof. A utility wing is attached to the side of the house. A brick wall closes off the front garden from the street. The interior of the house has largely been changed by a renovation. Therefore, only the exterior masonry with door and window design and the roof are entered in the list of monuments.
Addendum March 28, 1995: The fountain in the cellar, the historic cellar vault and the surrounding wall of the front garden are also part of the monument. |

Homestead | Beeck Holtumer Strasse 31 map |
Agricultural homestead modeled on the French hotel type. Three wings enclosed a courtyard, which was delimited by an enclosure towards the street. The farm buildings were not insignificantly changed by construction measures, but the manor house situation from 1825 with its five axes and two floors, as well as the tower presented, has largely been preserved. In its pyramid-shaped roof with the baroque lightning rod, this tower clearly shows the client's intentions to deliberately separate his house from the other farmhouses and to more closely resemble the Beeck castle complex. For the reasons outlined above, the courtyard is to be preserved and used for artistic reasons as well as for local historical and urban planning reasons. | Mid 19th century (1829) | Aug 9, 1985 | 12

Residential building | Beeck-Bissen In Beecker Bissen 9 Card |
In 1910 a plan was drawn up for a projected house for the owner. The plan is received from the owner, a descendant of the builder.
A gable-independent main building with a square floor plan with a spacious staircase and three living rooms accessible from here was planned. Somewhat back from the street, an eaves extension with a gate was to be built. The mansard roof allowed an almost two-storey extension, with chambers on the street side even in the loft. The gable facade was divided into two closely spaced axes, which also included the entrance axis and one with a slightly larger window opening. The trapezoidal gable surface of the attic was divided metrically. A dormer was planned over the courtyard entrance. The garden side took up the shape of the street facade. The only thing that changes here is the arrangement: the wider axis was formed by the windows that characterize the stairwell. On the eaves side, a transverse gable broke through the attic area. Bat dormers illuminated the attic. The almost two-storey plastered building with a brick base and mansard roof was built in 1911/12 by the grandfather of the current owner. It actually received a single-storey four-axle extension made of brick. The windows can be closed with roller shutters with ornate zinc covers from the construction period. The front door and the windows are, in keeping with the time of construction, lacquered with a wood-view finish and also provided with ornaments from the time shortly before the First World War. The facade and interior design show an astonishing urban character for its location. The cornice is coffered on the underside, the hallway is covered with beautiful Art Nouveau tiles and stuccoed above. The stucco in the rooms already takes on the forms of Art Deco. As is to be expected for such houses, the rooms on the ground floor are more richly decorated than those on the upper floor. Here, too, there is still stucco. The brick extension on the left was originally a "corner shop". This shop was run by the builder, a farmer, food importer and trader. He supplied the first Rheydt cooperatives with food. Some of the builder's customers lived in Berlin. Here the client got to know modern urban housing and transferred it to Wegberg-Bissen. His son continued the food wholesale business until structural change made it impossible for medium-sized businesses to exist in this area as well. The determination of the public interest for the monument value according to DSchG NRW is based on the following assessment criteria: - The site visit provided: 1. The object is not to be understood as a monument in the ensemble, as it is in no way related to buildings that form the ensemble. 2. Both the original facade design and the internal structure and decoration are traceable. Despite its modernity, the company fits into the Bissen structure. 3. The examination of the archive material in question provided the following meaningful content listed in § 2 DSchG NRW. The property is significant for Wegberg in terms of local history and, thanks to its owner and user, also for the development of working and production conditions. It is another property in the series of Wegberger entrepreneur villas with an attached commercial area. It supplements the overview of buildings from the 18th to 19th centuries with one from the beginning of this century. The combination of a rural property with a commercial enterprise, which is more common for rural and small-town areas, is still relatively legible here. The house itself survived the turmoil of World War II almost untouched, as a comparison with the planning and old photos shows. As a typical design of the period between the turn of the century and the First World War, the scientific, here in particular architectural reasons, required by law for a public interest in the preservation and use of a monument are present. The mixture of agricultural and commercial operations, which is no longer common today, justifies the public interest according to the Monument Protection Act in terms of folklore and its location and integration in the existing urban structure. |

Water tower | Uevekoven Luehweg map |
The Uevekoven water tower is a brick tower that was put into operation in December 1934. It is provided with a double-shell construction to keep the drinking water fresh even at high outside temperatures. Inside the wall rim there is a reinforced concrete container. The tower has a ring of 6 concrete pillars whose buckling length is shortened by freely drawn-in ceilings. The pillars surround the tube that contains the stairs to the container, the base plate of the container protrudes above them. The cylinder of the water tower head is divided horizontally by several plaster strips. The light openings are arranged as horizontal formats between these bands. Standing on a slight hill at the edge of the Tüschenbroich forest, the tower takes on the character of a landmark in the otherwise flat landscape.
The unchanged preservation and the clearly legible affiliation of the water tower to the architectural style of brick expressionism make the building important for Wegberg and its residents, as well as for the development of the buildings for the drinking water supply. |

Residential building | Rath Anhoven Rather Strasse 95 map |
The building was built in 1902 by the leather manufacturer Heinen from Mönchengladbach in the style of a small manufacturer's villa. The two-storey brick house was structured in broad axes and a single-axis central projection with a bay window on the upper floor. On the first floor, the arched windows were designed as double-coupled openings and a gate was built on the right-hand side. The windows on the upper floor are rectangular with arched lintels. All windows have attractive, ornamentally embossed zinc roller shutter covers. The window frames were heavily modeled. The house shows both inside and outside a very rich stucco decoration from the Art Nouveau period. Most of the stucco elements show hunting scenes. The drivable gate passage is also stuccoed and has an etched glass pane in the house entrance door, also in Art Nouveau forms. In the rooms one encounters stucco rosettes in the style of the time and stuccoed throats. There are over-portals above the doors. The stucco in the living room is designed as a kind of framework in cassettes. At the back of the kitchen there is a bay window with three lead-glazed colored windows. The municipal client is noticeable in the entire execution. | 19th century | Dec. 7, 1994 | 161

Residential building | Dalheim Rödgener Strasse 19 map |
Rödgener Straße 19 was originally a multi-wing courtyard, the barn of which was converted into a shoemaker's shop a few decades ago. The former house was given a new brick base around 1930, and the outer wall on the courtyard side was probably also moved 1 m outwards. By moving the front door to the eaves side opposite the former courtyard, a four-axis window division was created on the ground floor of the gable. The former, now walled up stable openings can still be seen next to the front door. In the half-timbered gable above there are two more windows. The simple house is covered with a gable roof and inside still shows part of the old Cologne ceilings and half-timbered walls. The former courtyard complex is a monument as a whole. As the oldest farm, it is important for the history of Dalheim-Rödgen and its residents. | Late 18th century | Oct 17, 1990 | 156

Westwall bunker | Dalheim Rödgener Straße 78-82 map |
On the northern edge of the Rödgen location, east of Rödgener Straße, there is a bunker of the west wall.
In addition to the two crew rooms (a and b), in which 27 men could be accommodated, the 8.80 × 16.10 m bunker also has the so-called flanking system (c). It served to secure both entrances, and from here the emergency entrance led into the open. On the right is the combat or observation room attached to the bunker, the machine gun slot of which was intended to secure the Rödgener Straße dam running through the valley of the Helpensteiner Bach. On May 28, 1938, Adolf Hitler gave the order to accelerate the expansion of the West Wall. On June 1, 1938, Army Group Command 2 took over management of the expansion. By autumn 1940, a bunker was built along the Belgian and Dutch border, partly consisting of two lines staggered one behind the other. Despite great propaganda efforts, the Siegfried Line was not a major military obstacle for the Allied forces in 1944/45. In September 1944, American troops pushed through the Siegfried Line in the Monschau and Aachen area. On February 23, 1945, American troops crossed the Rur further south. After a few days they also reached Rödgen and occupied the bunkers in this room. With its material legacy, the Siegfried Line is one of the monuments from our immediate past. As a fortification, it is important for the history of the people in Germany and the development of fortification technology. It fulfills the requirements according to § 2 DSchG NRW for entry also as a ground monument in the monument list. There is a public interest in its protection and maintenance. |

Residential building | Wegberg Venloer Strasse 129 map |
As in many Rhenish cities, in Wegberg, after the construction of the railroad, the development exceeded the original borders. Wegberg continued to develop around the turn of the century between the town center and the railway line from Arsbeck to Mönchengladbach. The railway made it possible for industry to settle at Wegberg station, but usually already beyond the railway. In the course of this development, a number of private residential buildings were also built along Bahnhofstrasse and Venloer Strasse.
The building at Venloer Straße 129, which was erected in 1906, falls out of these houses due to its urban training which was typical for Wegberg at this time, but unusual. Venloer Straße is an unmistakable brand on the border between Wegberg and Harbeck. The house has a simple plastered facade with corner blocks and the Brettbachwerk typical of the time in the gable fields under the crooked hip on the street side. The ideals of the picturesque building of the 19th century, as well as echoes of Art Nouveau, are recognizable in the facade design and decor. A two-storey building rises above an angular floor plan in two axes in the city-side gable and the adjoining eaves side as well as an axis with coupled windows on the upper floors. In the parapet area under the windows on the first floor there is a vignette in Art Nouveau form with the inscription: "Built AR 1906 GF". An arbor with a flat sloping hipped roof was placed in the corner of the building to cover the entrance. A round arch rises above pillars with capitals on each side. In the brick-faced wall at the back there are two bricked-up windows on the upper floor. The entrance situation, the staircase and the flat frieze reliefs typical of the time on the walls below the ceiling are still unchanged. The extensive preservation and the clear drop out of the usual development of this period makes the building important for Wegberg and its residents. The above description provides the urban development, artistic and scientific reasons for a public interest in the preservation and use according to § 2 DSchG NRW. |

Country inn with outbuildings | Schwaam Zum Thomeshof 4 card |
It was originally the first "mom and pop shop" in the Schwaam district with an attached pub. Afterwards the inn was operated in the house "Zum Thomeshof 4". In the mid-1990s, the inn was expanded into a country inn and guesthouse, and agricultural use was completely abandoned. A large part of the four-sided courtyard was repaired. In 1997 it was given a thatched roof based on the neighboring courtyard. For reasons of local history, there is an interest in preserving it. | 18th century | Jan. 22, 2002 | 168

Brick courtyard | Schwaam Zum Thomeshof 27 map |
Closed brick courtyard, 18./19. Century, part of a row of farms on the Terrassenkatte above the Schwalm valley; on the street side gatehouse and two-storey eaves residential building, three window axes with shutters. Structures differentiated according to function in height and width (residential building, gatehouse, stables, barn), the former farm buildings with largely closed wall and roof surfaces (former barn, now stable in the east). Important historical details have been preserved for the courtyard and inside, such as windows, cast-iron supports and various ceilings, including a cap ceiling and a Cologne ceiling with heavy oak joists on the upper floor of the residential building. In the courtyard, the historic Keienboden is remarkable, an element that was once typical of the region and is now rare. The courtyard is important for Wegberg as an integral part of an intact preserved historical settlement. Historically typical for the region, still vividly preserved, closed courtyard complex with significant historical building fabric, therefore worth preserving for scientific, here architectural-historical reasons. In addition, there are reasons for urban planning, here that shape the cultural landscape. | 18./19. century | Oct 7, 2011 | 171 |
