Water tower of the former colliery Palenberg
Berghalde
map
Water tower spherical tank with a capacity of approx. 500 m³, resting on a hexagonal framework designed as a space framework. A special feature is the elaborately designed fan lantern with the curved transition to the spherical container, the almost drum-like structure with round arched closed lamella opening and hood-shaped roof. The service bars at the level of the support ring at the base of the fan lantern are above average. The railing of the lower bridge in particular has a design that can be attributed to the geometric Art Nouveau style. As the only surviving scaffolding-technical element of the former colliery, the water tower next to the administration and wage building in solid construction bears the memory of the former mining, the other components of which have already disappeared. In addition to its scientific value as a testimony to historical engineering, the water tower has a high urban design value and is a striking feature of former mining. 1912 20 Mar 1990 18th

map
In the first construction phase in 1928, it was built as a six-class Catholic elementary school in a striking urban location at a street crossing in the form of an L-wing with a clock tower. The extension building, which was added in 1936 and added a second floor in 1951, is of less quality in terms of detail. Only the first construction phase from 1928 is considered a monument. This is a two-story wing structure with brick masonry and a slim, cubic clock tower; the clock is lost today. In the interior of the building, the staircase with its simple metal railing in a functionalist-geometric design language and in the upper floor corridor the "stone wood" floor should be emphasized. The teacher's apartment was originally located in the short southern wing. With the striking corner position towards the intersection, towards which the tower and entrance are arranged, the formerly indexed center-forming function can still be seen. 1928 30th Mar 2000 30th

It is the only communal building from the 19th century and has a close historical connection with the former municipality of Übach. At the beginning of the last century the building was used for administrative purposes by the mayor's office in Übach. Übach gave up its independence in 1846 and was co-administered by the "Samtverband Baesweiler" until 1924. The mayor of Baesweiler held his office hours there. In 1925 Übach became an "independent administration" again. In addition to the formation of the large community of Übach-Palenberg, consisting of the mayorships of Übach, Scherpenseel and Frelenberg in 1935, the building was used as the administrative center until 1938. 1928 30th Mar 2000 29

Rimburg Castle

Rimburg Castle Rimburg
Rimburg
map
The castle was built in the 12th century with a mighty keep. In the 13th century, after being destroyed in the feud between Limburg and Brabant, the facility was rebuilt with four flanking towers and an outer fortification belt. The castle was ruined by frequent changes in the occupation of Jülich Fehde until the end of the 17th century. In a thorough overhaul, the ceilings that are still preserved today were installed and the keep was redesigned into a stair tower. In 1899 Johanna von Brauchitsch gave the castle a baroque facade according to plans by Prof. Kleesattel, the southwest flanking tower was raised and crowned with a hood. (The other flanking towers had already disappeared at the beginning of the 19th century). The outer bailey was rebuilt for this purpose. The half-timbered gallery in the inner courtyard as well as the buildings for gardeners and foresters on the castle island and the tomb in the nearby forest can also be assigned to this period. From the outer ring of fortifications from the 13th century, the north brick tower with the casemates surrounding it is still preserved. Inside, a rib vault that was renewed at the turn of the century has been preserved, while the hipped roof that existed at the time is now missing. The castle complex, which is very close to a former Roman road, is a monument according to § 2 DSchG for reasons of its history and the fact that it has been preserved. 12th century June 22, 1984 9
