history

The stone cross from 1865 is an old testimony to the village of Bissen near Wegberg. In the small hamlet not far from the border area ring the Lohmühle is situated on the Schwalm that the here Grenzlandring crosses under. The mill burned down in 1964. It was built in the French times around 1800 as a rammed earth mill. Here Eschenlohe was tamped for tanneries . In the following period it was converted into an oil and bone pounding mill, with the official requirement that it could not be operated as an oil press and a bone pounding mill at the same time. It was only after the currency reform that edible oil production was stopped.
