Schleiden is a district of Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The place borders north on Heinsberg, east on Schafhausen, Eschweiler and Grebben and a smaller settlement called Dorath.

history

The first settlement in Schleiden was mentioned around the 14th and 15th centuries. This structure of the village did not yet resemble the current shape along the country road, the former federal road 221 .

There is a chapel within Schleiden , which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015. This was done on December 8, 1964.

The school in the village has been used as a youth home since the 1950s. In the village there is a fire fighting group from the Heinsberg volunteer fire department .

Buildings

Schleiden No. 108

This house appears to be the oldest in the village, but the year above the door shows 1807. There is a cross in front of the house .

Schleiden No. 45 and No. 47

The neighboring houses are both from the 19th century, although the exact year for house number 47 is unclear. The house is estimated to be at the beginning of the 19th century. House number 45 was built in 1857.

Schleiden No. 66

There is also a cross in the front garden of house number 66. This belongs to the city. It is about 160 cm high and shows a Jesus figure. At the lower end of this cross there is a figure of Mary .

Schleiden No. 68

Schleiden's old school, which is now used as a youth home, a meeting place for the youth and interest group (Y + I) and a place for the annual Halloween, Advent, Nicholas and Carnival celebrations. It is still known to local residents as "The Old School".

Economy and Transport

The place can only be reached by road, there is no train station. The next train station, on the Wurmtalbahn , is in Oberbruch . Federal road 221 ran through the village until the bypass. Today the village is traffic-calmed. There is a bus line in the direction of Heinsberg and Geilenkirchen to the train station, where you can change to Aachen (RE 4, RB 33), Dortmund (RE 4) and Duisburg (RB 33).

economy

The place is very agricultural. The agricultural company "Derichs LU GmbH" is based in Schleiden.

sport and freetime

There is a youth center, a playground and a football field in the village.
