Lieck is a district of the city of Heinsberg in the Heinsberg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
The settlement at the Liecker mill originated in Franconian times. Before that, the settlement was called Aldenhoven, with the typical -hoven ending, which is also noticeable in Kirchhoven and Aphoven.
On January 25, 1945, British units captured Lieck, Kirchhoven, Driesch, Haas and Vinn without resistance as part of Operation Blackcock . The day before they had captured the ruins of Heinsberg and made 180 prisoners of war. Then Wehrmacht units on the west bank had withdrawn to the east bank - behind the Rur .
