Waldenrath is a district of the city of Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

geography

The place borders in the north on the hamlet Pütt , in the west on Birgden and Schierwaldenrath , both districts of the community Gangelt , in the south on Gillrath , a district of the city of Geilenkirchen , and in the east on Straeten .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. At that time there was already a church in the village, which began to cooperate with the Heinsberg Gangolfuss pin in the same century . In 1670 the place came to Lerodt and was a French mayor's office. Today the place is a normal part of Heinsberg , today's urban district Waldenrath included parts of the old community.

On January 1, 1972, Waldenrath was incorporated into Heinsberg.

St. Nicholas Church

The Waldenrath Church was built in 1898 according to plans by Lambert von Fisenne and consecrated in 1900. In World War II it was badly damaged, the simplified reconstruction work lasted until the 1960th Because of this destruction, it was not entered in the list of monuments. The high altar of the church was entered on the list in 1987 after restoration work, it is dated to the 19th century.
